Artist Statement:As a retired university music professor, my life has always involved the arts. I made my first glass bead in 2004. I often begin without a particular idea but rather I select the colors then I let myself go—combining, creating, and embellishing. I always make myself repeat the bead several times so that I can develop my technique. If I am designing jewelry with the beads, I lay them out in front of me and see what design the beads suggest to me and then I start to play. Usually the ideas come quickly—I like working fast. The immediacy of glass bead-making is one of the attractions of the medium to me. Although I enjoy the pleasure that I feel when I make a particularly successful bead, the affirmation that I have received from others when they see my beads and jewelry has been an unexpected gift.
